The Goat Rodeo Sessions and Childish Gambino

First post! Let's kick it off with a truly cross-genre album.

The Goat Rodeo Sessions (self-titled)

This album is for the people who say:

"I kinda only listen to classical...I dunno, there's just so much to listen to in classical, and other music always seems tame and boring in comparison..." (if this is you, shame on you in general. just because no one will ever be a better songwriter than Ravel doesn't mean music is over)

"I like Nickel Creek, but other bluegrass bands annoy me. All those silly songs with three-part harmonies in the chorus about my baby at the old blue river. I mean, I like how mandolins and banjos sound, but yea..."

"I love when Yo-yo Ma does things outside of classical, they're so fun!"

"I wish Chris Thile would stop singing and just play his damn mandolin..." (DISAGREED, BY THE WAY)

"Bela Fleck is cool! He's so creative!" (guess who he's collaborated with...oh wait, everyone on this album!)

"blah blah blah Radiohead is the best blah blah..." (well, guess what, they influences acoustic artists too)

Childish Gambino - Camp

This album is for people who say:

"I love that one single by Eminem/Kanye/Lupe/whoever, but it's just the single..."

"I don't mind rapping, but I can't relate to Nas/Wu-Tang is crude/Kanye's ego is too big to hear the rhymes..." (a black guy who feels displaced no matter which group he tries to latch onto. who can't relate to not relating?)

"I like Kanye and maybe Jay-Z but that's it..."

"I hate rap..." (just try it. recognize that the songs you love use all the same tricks as this album, the same chords, the same hooks...just one is buffered by vocal lines, one by storytelling. do you like stories? then start listening.)

A word on this blog. I love showing people music, especially music outside of what they typically listen to. The sentiment I've gotten is that a lot of people love music (duh), but they don't know where to find it and typically will stick to their safe zone or genre. Well, stop it cause there's good music everywhere. Metal, hip-hop, jazz, pop, classical, everywhere. But yea, all I do is search for that good music, regardless of genre, and I'd like to share some of those finds here. Some of the songs/albums I put here may be super obvious to some readers, but I doubt you'll know everything I post. If you can even find one song or band that you like that you didn't know before, I'm happy. Peace.
